Second World War in Esbjerg
Esbjerg holds a lot of remains and memories from the Second World War and the german occupation. Take a walk back in time, through the streets of Esbjerg under Second World War, or see the exhibition at Esbjerg Museum or the Bunker at the Fisheries and Maritime Museum.
You can also visit the Bunker Museum in the bunker on Tarp Byvej and don't forget to visit Fourfeldt Gravlund with one of Scandinavia's largest war grave fields.
Esbjerg was a strategic hub for the German occupying power. As Esbjerg had the only harbour on the westcoast it was vital in the german defense of the Atlantic coast against an allied invasion and more than 1200 bunkers were constructed on Fanø and in the Esbjerg area. Some of these bunkers are now open to the public.

Fourfeldt Gravlund is Scandinavia's largest war cemetery, where 1150 Allied airmen and German soliders, as well as 151 German refugees, have been laid to rest in Scandinavia's largest war cemetery.
